If you have traveled with children before, you know that you will need to bring just about everything but the kitchen sink with you.  If this is the first time you are camping with children, you will want to make sure you have the essentials.  This kid-friendly camping checklist will help you pack efficiently so you don’t waste any time on your trip buying items you forgot.

Proper Clothing

Bring at least two outfits per day because chances are, they are going to get wet and dirty.  And that’s part of the fun!  Layering is also a good idea for chilly mornings and evenings.  If you will be swimming, pack extra swimsuits for when they are wet from the day before.

First Aid Kit

A standard first aid kit is a must, but make sure to include Benadryl and an after-bite ointment for any bug bites.  Don’t forget children’s Tylenol and any medications they might need.  Click here for some great camp-friendly first aid kits.

Sunscreen and Insect Repellent

Bring enough sunscreen to slather on several times a day, especially when camping in the summer or when participating in water activities.  Don’t forget a hat or sunglasses if your children usually wear them.

The outdoors makes kids hungry so make sure you have plenty of ready-to-go snacks on hand.

It is a wise choice to have some entertainment on hand in case it rains or you need something to occupy them in the evenings.  Board games, cards, balls, and books are some ideas.

Baby Wipes

Even if you are not camping with a baby, you will use them.  Trust us!  These are lifesavers while camping.

Kid’s Camp Chair

This is an item that is more useful than you think for giving kids a place to sit that is off of a wet or cold ground.   A few of our favorite chairs include: Redmon, Melissa & Doug and  Lucky Bums.

By packing the items on this kid-friendly camping checklist, you will be ready for your next trip to Saco River Camping Area. However, if you do forget something, our Country Store is well-stocked.  Visit for more details.
